About our Websites

It was about May of 2009 that the original g0ysRus website started, actually we have gone though many gyrations and upgrades since then, the first websites was actually area69.ws, this may sound on but seeing how the whole thing started quite literally by accident, you see, I do web hosting and web development, currently it’s my only source of any real income, because of this, I had from a friend who at the time wanted a website, it was to be a political type of site and they, my friend wanted area61.com, however, we quickly discovered that that domain was already taken, so this led us on a chase, well to make a long story short, he/we went from area51.com to area52, area 53 and all the .com’s where virtually all taken so where the .net the dot org and so we discovered .ws so area69.ws was chosen, finally a domain that was as close as they/we/he could find.

Well, as it turns out, after all that, the site or the domain was never used and so It just became one of those domain names I had laying around on the shelf so to speak , well seeing how a do web development, I have a sever in my home that is identical to the live server I use for hosting, now even though anything on the home server is never advertised or used as a hosting machine, it is still live to the outside world, it was about this time in May of 2009 that I discovered www.g0ys.org, and I must say, I was totally blown away, I was stoked, I have always up until this time thought of myself as being gay in fact, I was in a relationship for about 8 year and even with this, something just did not seem right alother I, at the time never really had given it that much thought.

So after viewing the g0ys.org site and then briefly looking at many of the yahoo groups, I thought, man, these things are freaking ugly, sure they offer some good info but they sure the heck are ugly and so I started playing around, conjuring up ideas and started actually putting a website together, it started out using a CMS which stands for contact management system, I decided to give e107 a go, http://e107.org then I started with some images and some simple pages with little bits of information that I grabbed from the g0ys.org site which became an issues later on, copying stuff for your own personal use is one thing, putting it on a site to use is yet another, anyway,, so now I have this very basic website system setup and running.

About June or so of 2009 I left to go down to my cabin in the middle of nowhere, after a bit of time, I had gotten a satellite internet connection from WildBlue so I could communicate and do work on sites remotely, one rainy evening  I decided to see what I could do with the then area69 site, well, it wasn’t until this time that I realized that about I think 20 or so people had actually already signed up to the site however, on the site I had never fully or intentionally thought about making the site live and because of this I had never setup the mail function of the site where it would actually send out the verification emails that most sites do and so all the guys that sign up could never really do anything until validated by the system.

So I thought, well I better do what I can to make the site function like a real site which I did in about 30 minutes or so, I then sent emails to all the people who signed up and told them of the situation and that the site is now fully functioning, and the site was born. I then moved the site from my test server to the live server in Niagara Falls NY and from there is built up.

Later on, the domain name area69.ws was about to expire, the name was not really fitting to the site anyway and so I purchased a new domain g0ysRus.com which I believe carry’s more meaning behind it,

Recently like around February of 2011, I created a new social network hosted now at the http://www.g0ysrus.com domain, the old site using the e107 became http://www.g0ysrus.com/orig witch is no longer of this writing, at this point, the original site using e107 is no longer active or used on a public network,  we now have a much better site using SocialEngine that uses a better, more fluid interactions between the members and offers better performance too boot.

Yesterday, I purchased another domain name http://g0ysrus.net this site, the one your viewing now is meant to host the articles that are standard across the board, meaning there is no changing or editing or comments their static pages more fitting here then on a social site, hopefully this new site will be a great education tool for the g0y newbie or for anyone that is interested in finding out more about g0ys in general.

This site will also host videos, we can host YouTube type videos on the social site, but you can host videos stored here on this server on the social site, so this site will allow us to show videos from here, again these will be static video pages.

So, here we are April of 2011 with 2 years under our belt, it’s getting better and the community here I must say is awesome, we have I think the most respectful group of men here then I have seen on any community type site and for this I am thankful , keep up  the great work you guys.

On a final note, on the old original site we had upwards of 285 members, on the new social site we only have 60 at the time of this writing, each member from the old site was sent an email offering notification of this change and information about how to join, at this point those that did not join on the new site were probably the same people ho where general inactive on the old site.
